How does PG&E work with Permit Sonoma and Addressing for a Meter
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E/PGE) has regulations to follow just as the County of Sonoma. Sometimes there is policies in place to help provide clarity and coordination. Per PG&E they have a variety for information found on the internet.
PG&E policy is to limit the number of meters per property. After review of an application to PG&E for a new meter they require a building permit from the local jurisdiction. They will only provide a Meter for the following.
Commercial
Residential
Agriculture
Public Right of Way (ROW)
Prior to PG&E approving an installation of a new meter they require and onsite assessment by PG&E Staff to validate to Tarriff and Green Book Standards.
The evaluation looks into existing Infrastructure and the service infrastructure. Examples are the Transformer or the existing service panel and meter.
Residential
PG&E will only provide a meter for Single Family Dwellings (SFD) Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU), Detached Residential Barns/Ag use.
Commercial
Meters for commercial and commercial suits.
Agriculture
AG use buildings permitted for AG use when approved by the local jurisdiction.
Right-of-Way
Meters needed for utilities. Examples are traffic lights, signs, other public utilities support.
Service Upgrades Vs New Meter
Permit Sonoma will not assign an address only for the installation of a meter. Permit Sonoma will follow addressing standards for structures requiring and address. Applicants and property owners may be required to upgrade the service per PG&E regulations and standards. Examples are New Transformer or Service Panel to supply a subpanel to an accessory structure, not a SFD or ADU. Examples of an accessory structure are,
Detached Garage
Pool House
Game Rooms
Storage Buildings not AG
