AB 720 is related to ABC licensing which create an Estate Tasting Event Permit, allowing winegrowers to apply to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to host tasting events outside of their bonded premises — either on winery property or at non-adjacent vineyards under their control. In Sonoma County, properties with an active winery and tasting room can offer estate tasting throughout the approved property consistent with the Winery Event Ordinance or their approved Use Permit if the permit was originally issued pre-Winery Event Ordinance. If the site proposed for the Estate Tasting Event is vineyard only or an established winery only approved for production, visitor serving uses are not allowed without a Use Permit Modification, or Periodic Special Event Permit to accommodate the tasting activity. The application for a Periodic Special Event Permit requires property owner consent for the subject parcel.
