Under California Government Code Sections 66313-66332 (previously 65852.2 subdivision (e)), up to two detached ADUs on a lot that has existing multifamily dwellings that are subject to height limits of 16 feet and four-foot rear and side yard setbacks are allowed; however, the State’s ADU Handbook states that “multiple detached single-unit dwellings on the same lot are not considered multifamily dwellings for the purpose of State ADU Law.
